State and national resources for grieving people

Many bereaved people begin the search for help by looking for something close to home. This directory lists community-based bereavement support organizations across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, along with national organizations that serve people regardless of location.

The directory is not exhaustive, and support is not distributed evenly across the country. Some states have deep networks. Others have almost nothing. This is one of the reasons Evermore exists — to advocate for a bereavement care infrastructure that reaches everyone.

Some charge a sliding-scale fee.

There are many support organizations and bereavement centers for people nationwide.

If you are looking for a therapist rather than a peer support group, you can ask your primary care doctor for a referral to a grief-specialized clinician, or search Psychology Today’s directory using “grief” or “bereavement” as a filter.
