SUMMARY:The Mystery of Grief: Writing into the Loss
DESCRIPTION:When we lose loved ones\, writing can be a powerful tool for helping us remember them\, helping us re-encounter the world without them\, and helping us re-know ourselves as the loss transforms us. \nIn this two-hour online program\, Evermore Poet Laureate Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer will offer a few suggestions for writing. Together\, we will read poems about grief and discuss them. We will have chances to do our own writing\, there will be optional time for sharing what we wrote\, and we will have time to reflect on the effect writing has on us. \nThe event is scheduled in Eastern Time (ET).

SUMMARY:Join Evermore’s Lived Experience Bereavement Research Network!
DESCRIPTION:For too long\, bereavement research has failed to give bereaved people a voice and to incorporate the real-world factors that matter to grieving people\, especially to their health and well-being. The narrow focus on what’s “wrong” with us and why we haven’t adapted to our loss on a specific timeline simply does not resonate with a large portion of people’s lived experience. Without input from those living with grief\, researchers cannot know the most important research questions to ask and what kinds of care models and interventions should be developed. \nEvermore\, with financial support from PCORI\, has established the Lived Experience Bereavement Research Network (LEBRN) to do just that.  LEBRN will bring together people with varied backgrounds and expertise\, including people who have experienced bereavement themselves — bereaved parents\, children\, siblings\, spouses\, and community leaders — alongside bereavement care providers and researchers. Over the next two years\, we will identify how to best engage with bereaved people during research endeavors and we will recommend research questions\, from the perspective of lived experience\, to guide the future of bereavement research. \nAs part of LEBRN\, Evermore is engaging all bereaved people who would like to share their experiences\, opinions\, and insights to inform future bereavement research. \nThe event is scheduled in Eastern Time (ET). \n  \nIt’s FREE! It’s virtual. Sign up today!

SUMMARY:Lullaby for the Grieving: How Poetry Came to Meet My Grief
DESCRIPTION:When I lost my father in 2021\, I did not know how to see myself or my life anymore. I was a stranger to myself. As a poet\, writing and reading had helped me find my way through other trials of life\, and this time\, although it was harder\, reading poetry and allowing myself to write about my grief and the myriad emotions that I experienced in it started to form something of a mirror so I could see myself again. In this session\, I’ll read some work from my newest collection\, Lullaby for the Grieving and the work of other poets who have been a needed mirror. I will also share some elements of craft and form which were useful to me in articulating my experience. We will spend time writing and/or generating ideas based upon a few simple prompts. \n—Ashley M. Jones \n  \nAshley M. Jones is Poet Laureate Emerita of Alabama (2022-2026). She is the first person of color and the youngest person in Alabama’s history to hold this position\, which was created in 1930. Jones is the author of four poetry collections\, most recently Lullaby for the Grieving. She is the author of the essay collection WHAT THE MIRROR SAID: THE NECESSITY OF BLACK WOMEN IN POETRY\, and she is the co-editor of WHAT THINGS COST: An Anthology for the People. Jones has earned fellowships and awards from many organizations\, including the SouthArts\, Academy of American Poets\, the Rona Jaffe Foundation\, and the Alabama State Council on the Arts. She was named the Southern Prize Finalist by SouthArts in September 2025. Her poems are published in many journals and publications\, including POETRY\, Academy of American Poets\, The Atlantic\, The Nation\, and The Oxford American\, and her work has been featured by outlets including PBS\, CNN\, The BBC\, Good Morning America\, ABC News\, and the New York Times. Jones is the Associate Director of the University Honors Program at UAB\, the executive director of the Magic City Poetry Festival\, and she is a PhD student in English at Old Dominion University. \nLearn more at ashleymjonespoetry.com \nThe event is scheduled in Eastern Time (ET).

In this special performance\, Elizabeth invites the audience into the heart of her creative world\, sharing the stories\, memories\, and moments of inspiration that shaped each song. \nThrough her warm presence and expressive voice\, Elizabeth offers a glimpse into the personal significance behind her music—where it came from\, what it means to her\, and the emotions and experiences that led each piece to life. This evening is not only a performance but a conversation between artist and audience\, creating a deeper connection to the music and the stories that carry it. \n“Gift of Your Love” celebrates authenticity\, reflection\, and the power of song to speak to our shared humanity. Whether you are a longtime admirer or discovering Elizabeth’s work for the first time\, this event promises a heartfelt and memorable night of music\, storytelling\, and connection. \nLast holiday season\, Evermore asked our community to submit pictures of their loved ones for a celebration of life video featuring Elizabeth Suggs’ song Gift of Your Love. SUMMARY:The Shape of Grief: An Art Experiential
DESCRIPTION:This experiential art directive invites participants to step out of purely cognitive understanding and into a more embodied exploration of grief. \nParticipants will be gently prompted to consider the sensory and emotional qualities of grief—its weight\, temperature\, and movement—and translate those experiences visually.  \nThis process creates space not only for expression\, but for reflection. Through guided processing questions\, participants can begin to notice shifts\, contrasts\, and moments of support within their experience. \nNo art experience is needed—just a willingness to explore\, feel\, and create. \nKiona Edwards is a ceramic artist and the creator of SEEN\, a reflective art-based journal designed to foster deeper emotional connection and self-understanding. Her work lives at the intersection of creativity and psychology\, drawing from her background as a licensed creative arts therapist to inform both her artistic process and conceptual approach. \nKiona’s work is grounded in the belief that creativity is not reserved for artists\, but is a fundamental human capacity for processing\, expressing\, and making meaning. Across both her ceramics and SEEN\, she is committed to creating spaces—both physical and emotional—where people feel invited to explore themselves with curiosity\, honesty\, and compassion. \nLearn more at guidedartjournal.com. \nThe event is scheduled in Eastern Time (ET).

SUMMARY:Collaborative Music for Coping with Grief and Supporting Each Other
DESCRIPTION:are grieving. Music provides a space where we can explore and bring compassion to the entire spectrum of human experiences\, from pain to joy and everything in between. In this way\, music can normalize a variety of grief-related emotions and bring people together to support one another in a shared space\, while also honoring individual perceptions. One’s relationship with music may have changed after a loss\, and\, in this case\, new music without previous emotional associations may be a supportive resource.  \nIn this two-hour online program\, music therapist Molly Grace Hicks will begin with a music and meditation experience to help participants increase emotional awareness and come into the present moment. Participants will have the opportunity to share if and how their relationship to music has changed since their loss. Molly will introduce and teach several original songs on the topic of grief\, some of which contain space for participant collaboration. Participants will share ideas for lyrics to be added to the songs\, and Molly will incorporate these in real time. Molly will offer suggestions for how participants may use music as a resource for coping in their daily lives as they continue moving through the grief process. No previous musical experience is required to fully engage in this session! \nMolly Grace Hicks is a Board-Certified Music Therapist and a Fellow in Thanatology (the study of death\, dying and bereavement). Based in Philadelphia\, PA\, Molly is the founder of a private practice\, Connected Voice Creative Healing\, where she supports people who are experiencing grief and loss\, life transitions\, and spiritual struggles. Molly earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music therapy from Temple University. Previously\, she worked in hospice care for 16 years\, as a music therapist and bereavement coordinator. Molly regularly presents at professional conferences\, has authored journal articles and chapters in music therapy texts\, and co-developed a continuing education course to help music therapists better meet the spiritual needs of the individuals with whom they work.  \nMolly is also passionate about interfaith leadership and its intersections with grief and justice work. She has been co-leading a monthly interfaith music gathering called Song\, Silence & Sanctuary for the past 8 years\, and is a board member and presenter for the international organization Interfaith Alignment. Molly sings with the Interfaith Music Project of Philadelphia. Molly loves to write her own songs and poems\, and also enjoys creating collage and mixed media artwork. She uses music and other creative arts to form and strengthen connection with herself and others. \nLearn more at connected-voice.net. \nThe event is scheduled in Eastern Time (ET).

SUMMARY:Better Together: Shaping Tomorrow's Bereavement Care Research
DESCRIPTION:Evermore\, a nonprofit dedicated to making the world a more livable place for all bereaved people\, invites you to Shaping Tomorrow’s Bereavement Care Research to convene bereaved individuals\, clinicians\, researchers\, and system-level leaders\, including representatives from health systems\, payers\, professional associations\, and community organizations\, to advance the future of bereavement research. \nSetting the Context \nFor too long\, bereavement research has failed to give bereaved people a voice and incorporate the real-world factors that matter to grieving people\, especially as it relates to their health and well-being. \nOver the last 18 months\, Evermore\, with financial support from PCORI\, has established the Lived Experience Bereavement Research Network (LEBRN) to create guiding principles for how researchers should engage with bereaved individuals\, as well as what our more pressing research questions are to guide the future of bereavement research. \nDuring the meeting\, we will review and discuss LEBRN’s developed principles and research agenda\, further exploring today’s research and practice landscape by identifying barriers and opportunities for integrating effective bereavement care into systems\, ultimately to lay the groundwork for future patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research. \nWe hope you will join us! \nQuestions? Contact Rene Harrell\, Senior Manager of Science & Trends at rene@evermore.org \nThis convening is funded through a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute® (PCORI®) Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award (#49140).

SUMMARY:Shared Grief\, Living Tradition: Writing the Contemporary Elegy
DESCRIPTION:In this reading and writing workshop\, we will explore the distinct force of elegy\, poetry of mourning and memory. We will slow-listen to the undermusic in elegiac traditions and hear their contemporary resonances. And we will engage these traditions to better know our own experiences of struggle and express our own commitments to others. How can these past voices guide our own ways of understanding loss and bearing witness to one another’s grief? How might our poems circulate among others\, in shared acts of memory\, gratitude\, and grief? Participants will read and discuss several inspiring poems\, free-write\, compare ideas in small groups\, and shape our own poetic language. We will also have time to share our writing with the full group and consider next steps for building out our poetic practice. \nThis workshop will be taught by Karen Elizabeth Bishop and David Sherman\, co-directors of The Elegy Project\, a public poetry initiative that distributes poems in public places for strangers. Since 2022\, TEP has left thousands of poetry cards in libraries\, subways\, post offices\, bars\, and bookstores\, as well as on countless utility poles and park benches. This initiative is an attempt to make the world more interesting and grief less lonely. Karen Elizabeth Bishop is faculty in Spanish and Comparative Literature at Rutgers University and author of several books\, including the poetry volume the deering hour. David Sherman is faculty in English at Brandeis University.
