SUMMARY:Better Together: Shaping Tomorrow's Bereavement Care Research
DESCRIPTION:Evermore\, a nonprofit dedicated to making the world a more livable place for all bereaved people\, invites you to Shaping Tomorrow’s Bereavement Care Research to convene bereaved individuals\, clinicians\, researchers\, and system-level leaders\, including representatives from health systems\, payers\, professional associations\, and community organizations\, to advance the future of bereavement research. \nSetting the Context \nFor too long\, bereavement research has failed to give bereaved people a voice and incorporate the real-world factors that matter to grieving people\, especially as it relates to their health and well-being. The narrow focus on what’s “wrong” with us and why we haven’t adapted to our loss on a specific timeline simply does not resonate with a large portion of people’s lived experience. Without input from those living with grief\, researchers cannot know the most important research questions to ask and what kinds of care models and interventions should be developed. \nOver the last 18 months\, Evermore\, with financial support from PCORI\, has established the Lived Experience Bereavement Research Network (LEBRN) to create guiding principles for how researchers should engage with bereaved individuals\, as well as what our more pressing research questions are to guide the future of bereavement research. \nDuring the meeting\, we will review and discuss LEBRN’s developed principles and research agenda\, further exploring today’s research and practice landscape by identifying barriers and opportunities for integrating effective bereavement care into systems\, ultimately to lay the groundwork for future patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research. \nWe hope you will join us! \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Shared Grief\, Living Tradition: Writing the Contemporary Elegy
DESCRIPTION:In this reading and writing workshop\, we will explore the distinct force of elegy\, poetry of mourning and memory. We will slow-listen to the undermusic in elegiac traditions and hear their contemporary resonances. And we will engage these traditions to better know our own experiences of struggle and express our own commitments to others. How can these past voices guide our own ways of understanding loss and bearing witness to one another’s grief? How might our poems circulate among others\, in shared acts of memory\, gratitude\, and grief? Participants will read and discuss several inspiring poems\, free-write\, compare ideas in small groups\, and shape our own poetic language. We will also have time to share our writing with the full group and consider next steps for building out our poetic practice. \nThis workshop will be taught by Karen Elizabeth Bishop and David Sherman\, co-directors of The Elegy Project\, a public poetry initiative that distributes poems in public places for strangers. Since 2022\, TEP has left thousands of poetry cards in libraries\, subways\, post offices\, bars\, and bookstores\, as well as on countless utility poles and park benches. This initiative is an attempt to make the world more interesting and grief less lonely. Karen Elizabeth Bishop is faculty in Spanish and Comparative Literature at Rutgers University and author of several books\, including the poetry volume the deering hour. David Sherman is faculty in English at Brandeis University.  \nThe event is scheduled in Eastern Time (ET).

DESCRIPTION:When we lose loved ones\, writing can be a powerful tool for helping us remember them\, helping us re-encounter the world without them\, and helping us re-know ourselves as the loss transforms us. \nIn this two-hour online program\, Evermore Poet Laureate Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer will offer a few suggestions for writing. Together\, we will read poems about grief and discuss them.
