SUMMARY:Informational Call for Interested Researchers. AJPH Call for Papers: Bereavement as a Global Health Concern
DESCRIPTION:If you are a researcher interested in contributing to the rapidly evolving field of bereavement science\, Evermore invites you to an informational call designed to support scholars\, analysts\, and practitioners considering submission to the American Journal of Public Health’s Special Section on Bereavement as a Global Health Concern. This session will offer an overview of the Call for Papers\, explain the scientific importance of bereavement research\, and provide guidance on crafting competitive manuscripts for publication.  \nBereavement — the experience of losing a loved one through death — is increasingly acknowledged as an important health concern by the United States’ federal infrastructure. Rising death rates linked to global crises such as pandemics\, natural disasters\, and societal inequities have dramatically increased the number of bereaved individuals\, with significant implications for population health worldwide. In fact\, current evidence highlights associations between bereavement and a range of poor health\, social\, and economic outcomes. \nThis informational call will explore the current state of bereavement science and outline why it represents an exciting and timely opportunity for health researchers interested in shaping an emerging yet significant field of science. Whether your interests lie in epidemiology\, population health\, health policy\, community health\, or the sociocultural determinants of well-being\, bereavement research offers a powerful lens for examining how loss shapes health across diverse contexts and populations.  \nDuring the session\, we will: \n\nSummarize the goals and scope of the AJPH Call for Papers\, including key themes and questions the journal seeks to address (e.g.\, population distribution of bereavement\, differential impacts across subgroups\, cultural and policy contexts).\nDiscuss the current state of bereavement research and how recent U.S. federal actions and priorities may inform study design\, policy analysis\, and global comparative research in this domain.\nHighlight key papers shaping the field\, identify pressing and debated issues in bereavement science\, and discuss where new scholarship is especially needed.\n\nWhether you are a seasoned investigator or emerging scholar\, this session is an excellent entry point into an emerging scientific movement that aims to deepen our understanding of bereavement’s impact on health and inform policy and practice at local\, national\, and global levels.
